chennai Mayor R. Priya initiated an extensive mosquito control operation covering all 15 zones of the city on Tuesday. Commencing the drive in ward 74 of Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, she led Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) workers in taking a public health pledge and called upon residents to collaborate in eliminating mosquito breeding sources. The GCC will begin clearing such sources from private properties inadequately maintained by owners. GCC Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan launched fogging operations in ward 123 of the Teynampet zone. He reassured the public that, at present, all communicable diseases are under control, with ongoing close monitoring of the situation. With an observed increase in mosquito density in various parts of the city, the GCC has directed workers to clear storm-water drains containing stagnant water. Additionally, residents are advised to proactively eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites within their homes. This proactive mosquito control drive underscores the city’s commitment to public health and preventing the spread of vector-borne diseases.
