As the political landscape in Tamil Nadu gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has reiterated his party’s commitment to the DMK alliance, ruling out the possibility of joining forces with the AIADMK-led coalition.
Following a meeting of his party’s executive committee, Thirumavalavan clarified that while the VCK and the DMK are yet to finalize their seat-sharing arrangement, his party remains steadfast in its alliance with the DMK. Emphasizing the importance of defeating the BJP, he stated that the primary objective of the VCK is to counter the ruling party at the center.
Thirumavalavan underscored that the VCK’s stance is rooted in ideological principles and the broader goal of safeguarding the interests of the nation and its people. Despite ongoing negotiations with the DMK regarding seat allocation, he asserted that the VCK’s decision will prioritize the collective interest over individual preferences.
“We may or may not get the seats we have sought from the DMK, but we feel that it is more important to rescue the country from the BJP,” Thirumavalavan affirmed. He further disclosed the VCK’s plans to contest elections in multiple states, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, and Kerala, in addition to Tamil Nadu.
In Telangana, the VCK intends to field candidates in 10 constituencies, while also participating in alliance politics with the Congress in Andhra Pradesh. In Karnataka, the party aims to contest in six Lok Sabha seats, and in Kerala, it plans to vie for three Lok Sabha seats, including Idukki.
Thirumavalavan acknowledged the significance of strategic alliances in preventing the fragmentation of anti-BJP votes and expressed hope for collaboration with the Congress in Andhra Pradesh. However, he asserted that if the VCK is not part of the Congress alliance, its candidates will contest independently.
