In a significant move towards urban development and governance enhancement, the Tamil Nadu government has proposed the upgrading of four municipalities to corporations. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has directed the initiation of the process to upgrade Pudukottai, Namakkal, Tiruvannamalai, and Karaikudi municipalities into corporations, according to an official release.The proposed upgrades aim to streamline administrative structures, improve service delivery, and promote holistic development in these regions. As per the plan, the following municipalities and their respective neighboring village panchayats will be upgraded:
Pudukottai Corporation:
Pudukottai town, along with its adjoining 11 village panchayats, will be elevated to the status of a corporation. This move is expected to bolster infrastructure development, enhance civic amenities, and spur economic growth in the region.
Namakkal Corporation:
Namakkal town and its surrounding 12 village panchayats are slated to be upgraded as Namakkal corporation. This transformation is aimed at fostering urbanization, promoting sustainable development, and catering to the evolving needs of the populace.
Tiruvannamalai Corporation:
The historic town of Tiruvannamalai, coupled with its adjacent 18 village panchayats, is earmarked for elevation to Tiruvannamalai corporation. This upgrade is poised to bolster urban infrastructure, enhance governance mechanisms, and facilitate inclusive growth in the region.
Karaikudi Corporation:
Karaikudi town, along with its two town panchayats and five village panchayats, is set to be upgraded as Karaikudi corporation. This transition is expected to catalyze urban development, stimulate economic activity, and improve the quality of life for residents.
