Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains undeterred amidst the storm sparked by his recent speech targeting the Muslim community while attacking the Congress. On Tuesday, Modi reiterated his allegations, accusing the Congress of attempting to extend reservation based on religion, specifically for Muslims. He further accused the party of orchestrating a “deep conspiracy” to redistribute wealth among a select group.Despite criticism suggesting that the BJP allegedly misquoted former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to support its claims, Modi repeated the allegations during an election rally in Rajasthan’s Tonk. He asserted that the Congress has historically pursued appeasement and vote bank politics, citing instances of attempted Muslim reservation in Andhra Pradesh during their tenure.
Modi claimed that soon after assuming power in 2004, the Congress reduced SC/ST reservation in Andhra Pradesh and attempted to allocate it to Muslims—a move thwarted by legal obstacles and Supreme Court intervention. He alleged that the Congress persisted in its efforts to implement Muslim reservation nationwide, challenging them to openly declare their intentions regarding reservation for Muslims out of the quota for Dalits and tribal communities.
Highlighting the BJP’s actions in Karnataka, Modi stated that his government abolished the Muslim quota created by the Congress government out of the reservation for Scheduled Castes and Tribes. He reiterated his stance that his recent controversial speech aimed to expose the Congress’ vote bank and appeasement politics, emphasizing their alleged agenda of wealth redistribution.
Modi’s remarks come amid ongoing controversy and criticism from opposition parties and the public. Despite facing backlash, he remains steadfast in his allegations against the Congress, framing the issue as a battle against vote bank politics and a defense of equitable distribution of resources.
