The leadership turmoil within the Congress government in Karnataka has come under sharp criticism from K Annamalai, president of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Annamalai highlighted the evident confusion in the management of law and order in the state, attributing it to the presence of multiple power centres vying for control.
Addressing the media at a conference in Shivamogga, Annamalai pointed out that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah does not hold sole authority, stating, “There are too many power centres in Karnataka.”
Annamalai identified various individuals as influential power centres within the Karnataka Congress government, contributing to the leadership vacuum and subsequent administrative challenges. He remarked, “Siddaramaiah is CM. D.K. Shivakumar is CM-in-waiting. (Siddaramaiahâs son) Yathindra is the future CM. Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara is the perpetual to-be-CM, and there is Satish Jarkiholi who has been waiting to be CM for many years.”
In addition to these figures, Annamalai highlighted the role of Randeep Singh Surjewala, referring to him as the “PM for Karnataka,” who regularly intervenes in governance matters, further contributing to the confusion and lack of coherence in decision-making processes.
The BJP leader emphasized that this leadership ambiguity directly impacts the maintenance of law and order in Karnataka, with the state grappling with issues stemming from conflicting power dynamics and a lack of clear direction.
