Fill vacant posts of VCs in varsities, OPS to govt


Former Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister and estranged AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam has launched a scathing attack on the state government, accusing it of neglecting crucial appointments and causing delays in the education system. Panneerselvam’s criticism primarily centers around the prolonged vacancies in the positions of Vice Chancellors (VCs) at three state universities, namely the University of Chennai, Bharathiar University in Coimbatore, and Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University.

In a statement, Panneerselvam expressed deep concern over the absence of VCs in these universities, highlighting the adverse impact on their functioning and the overall quality of education. He squarely blamed the DMK government for the prevailing situation, accusing it of displaying double standards in the appointment of VCs and faculties, thereby compromising the integrity of educational institutions.

Furthermore, Panneerselvam raised pointed questions regarding the delay in conducting examinations, particularly for candidates enrolled in distance education programs, whose exams were scheduled for December 2023. The prolonged delay in distributing study materials and textbooks to these students has further exacerbated their academic challenges, casting doubts on the government’s commitment to ensuring timely and efficient educational processes.

Expressing skepticism over the University of Madras’s ability to conduct semester examinations scheduled for June this year, Panneerselvam highlighted the need for urgent intervention to address systemic deficiencies and restore confidence in the education system.

Moreover, Panneerselvam criticized the state government’s confrontational stance with the University Grants Commission (UGC), stressing the importance of collaboration and cooperation to uphold educational standards and ensure the delivery of quality education to students.

In light of these pressing concerns, Panneerselvam called upon the Tami
