Chennai’s iconic Broadway Bus Station is on the brink of a transformative journey to the island, signaling a significant milestone in the city’s transportation evolution. This move is part of an ambitious initiative aimed at establishing a cutting-edge “Multi-Modal Integration” terminal, promising seamless connectivity for commuters across different modes of transportation.
Under the guidance of the Corporation, extensive preparations are underway to create a state-of-the-art interim bus station on the island. This interim solution, budgeted at Rs. 5 crore, will be equipped with essential facilities to accommodate commuters until the permanent relocation to the island is finalized in the coming months.
Simultaneously, bold redevelopment efforts are reshaping the landscape of the Broadway precinct. The current bus station location is earmarked for a remarkable transformation into a dynamic nine-story commercial complex, poised to redefine the area’s skyline. Furthermore, plans are in motion to replace the esteemed Kuralagam building with a striking ten-story commercial edifice. To enhance connectivity, a seven-foot flyover is being constructed to seamlessly link Broadway with the bustling metro and suburban train stations.
