In observance of World Day Against Child Labour, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that Tamil Nadu is making significant progress in its efforts to eliminate child labour, with a targeted completion by 2025.

In his statement on Tuesday, Chief Minister Stalin highlighted the ongoing efforts and successes of the state government in reducing child labour. He emphasized the active role played by both the public and employers in this endeavour. “Considering the significance of the issue, the public and employers have been avoiding employing children as labourers,” he noted.

The Chief Minister underscored the comprehensive strategies being implemented across the state, including the proactive involvement of District Collectors. ā€œDistrict Collectors have been taking steps to declare districts free of child labour,ā€ he said, reflecting the administration’s commitment to this critical social issue.

Tamil Nadu’s approach includes heightened awareness campaigns, strict enforcement of child labour laws, and initiatives to provide education and rehabilitation for affected children. These measures aim to create a sustainable environment where children can pursue their education and personal development without the burden of labour.

Stalin’s message on World Day Against Child Labour resonates with the global call to action to protect children and ensure their rights to education and a safe childhood. As Tamil Nadu strides towards its goal of eradicating child labour by 2025, it sets a benchmark for other regions grappling with similar challenges.

The Chief Minister’s announcement is a reminder of the collective responsibility of government, society, and employers to safeguard the future of children, ensuring that they are nurtured in environments conducive to their growth and development.
