The Tamil Nadu State government has made a significant financial contribution to its citizens by disbursing Rs 1,000 each to over 1.48 lakh applicants under the Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) scheme. This development follows successful appeals for reconsideration of their initial rejections, bringing much-needed support to these individuals.
In July, the KMUT scheme extended financial support to approximately 1.15 crore families across the state. Initially, 1.06 crore women were selected to receive a monthly honorarium of Rs 1,000 under the scheme. Additionally, from November onwards, 7.35 lakh more beneficiaries were included. As of July 15, the program has expanded to include an extra 1.48 lakh approved applicants who will now receive the monthly honorarium.
The KMUT initiative, launched to support eligible women across Tamil Nadu, began its monthly payments on September 15, 2023. This scheme reflects the government’s commitment to providing financial assistance to women, thereby improving their economic stability and overall quality of life.
