BJP state president K Annamalai criticized the ruling DMK government on Wednesday for the recent surge in crimes across Tamil Nadu, condemning the administration for its perceived failure to ensure public safety and dignity.Annamalaiâs remarks came in response to the gang rape of a young girl near Thanjavur district, allegedly involving a DMK functionary and a member of Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalinâs fan club, Kavidasan. Expressing his outrage, Annamalai stated, “The horrific gang rape in Orathanadu, Thanjavur, is yet another example of the lawlessness under this administration. The DMK government continues to prove its complete disregard for the safety and dignity of the people of Tamil Nadu.”
In a social media post, Annamalai demanded severe punishment for those involved in the crime and accused the state government, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, of allowing a culture of impunity. “With Ganja easily available across the state, it’s no surprise that such crimes are on the rise. This incident mirrors the 2022 gang rape in Virudhunagar, also involving DMK youth wing members,” he added.
Annamalai further questioned how long it would take for the Chief Minister to acknowledge the irreversible damage caused to Tamil society under his regime.
In addition to the gang rape case, Annamalai condemned an attack on a school student by DMK functionaries near Tindivanam in Villupuram district. “It is very shocking that a person belonging to DMK, along with his friends, attempted to murder a Class XII student near the police station. I pray for the speedy recovery of the assaulted student who is being treated at the hospital,” he said.
Annamalai urged Chief Minister Stalin to recognize that the perpetrators of such violent acts are a threat to society and called for strict action against them.
