Will you ask Siddaramaiah to quit, TMC asks Rahul Gandhi after RG Kar barb

In a sharp exchange of words, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has criticized the Congress party regarding the Karnataka Chief Minister issue, following Rahul Gandhi’s comments on the recent tragic incident in West Bengal. On Sunday, three days after Rahul Gandhi’s “Kathua to Kolkata” remark about the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the TMC launched an attack on Congress.

The incident in West Bengal has garnered significant attention, with most partners in the INDIA bloc voicing their demand for justice while supporting the steps taken by the Mamata Banerjee-led government. Rahul Gandhi, however, expressed his concern that there was “an attempt to save the accused instead of providing justice to the victim.” The Bengal Congress has also taken to the streets, protesting against the incident.

Adding fuel to the political fire, former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to respond to Rahul Gandhi. Ghosh shared an image of a news article reporting that Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot had granted permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with an alleged land allotment scam. Ghosh questioned Rahul Gandhi’s stance, writing, “So, Rahul Gandhi ji, will you ask your CM to resign? This is a gross allegation of corruption. Without having correct information about the WB incident, without knowing the steps taken by Mamata Banerjee, you made a comment on social media. Now, will you kindly take steps regarding your CM?”

This exchange highlights the growing tensions within the INDIA alliance, with the TMC openly challenging the Congress leadership on its handling of state-level issues. The Karnataka land allotment case, now being used as a point of contention, underscores the complex dynamics between the alliance partners as they navigate both regional and national politics.
