Chennai, Sept 16: In a significant move to improve infrastructure and facilities at government schools across Tamil Nadu, the State Bank of India (SBI) has contributed ₹1.37 crore to the ‘Namma School Namma Ooru Palli’ programme. This initiative, launched by Chief Minister MK Stalin in December 2022, aims to revamp and modernize State-run schools, providing better educational environments for students.
The contribution from SBI will be used to upgrade a total of 30 government schools located across 23 districts in Tamil Nadu. As part of this development, essential facilities such as computers, tables, seating, RO drinking water systems, and solar panels are being installed, according to programme staff. These improvements aim to enhance the learning experience and provide students with access to modern educational tools.
The ‘Namma School Namma Ooru Palli’ initiative has received widespread support from both government and private sectors. In June 2023, the Tamil Nadu education department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu Institute of Information and Communication Technology (ICTACT) to mobilize further contributions and provide training to government school students. The collaboration is focused on upgrading the technology infrastructure and training programs at these schools.
In addition to this, the education department had earlier collaborated with major corporate players such as Microsoft and Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) in July 2022. This partnership brought advanced courses in computer programming languages and artificial intelligence (AI) to government schools, aiming to equip students with skills for the future.
