Work has officially commenced on the construction of a new halt railway station at Kilambakkam, a development poised to enhance connectivity for commuters in Chennai. The Tamil Nadu government has allocated ₹20 crore for the project through the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).The Southern Railway has undertaken the construction plan following a funding request from the Tamil Nadu government. This new halt station aims to improve last-mile connectivity for passengers traveling to and from the suburban bus terminus, particularly benefiting those using long-distance, south-bound buses.
Scheduled for completion by January next year, the Kilambakkam halt railway station is expected to provide a significant boost to the region’s public transport infrastructure. The development is part of ongoing efforts to enhance urban transport connectivity and ease commuter challenges in Chennai.
