A Chennai couple was arrested after a video of them verbally abusing night patrol police officers and threatening to call Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin went viral on social media. The incident took place on Loop Road, Marina Beach, where the couple, identified as Chandramohan and Dhanalakshmi, were questioned by police during routine night rounds.The couple reacted aggressively when police officers approached them for an inquiry. Shockingly, they began hurling verbal abuses at the officers. The police, in response, filmed the incident. In the video, the couple posed for the camera, called the police derogatory names, and insulted them with vulgar language, even referring to one officer as âlooking like a lizardâ.
At one point, Chandramohan claimed connections with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, stating, âShall I call Udhayanidhi Stalin? Your Station Police Inspector will run away if she sees me.â He also threatened to track down the police officersâ addresses by the next day, adding that he couldnât be arrested.
Despite repeated requests by the police to move their vehicle, Chandramohan continued to mock the officers, claiming they had no authority to arrest him. The coupleâs behaviour, including the use of obscene language, shocked many and fuelled outrage online after the video went viral. Social media users demanded that the authorities take immediate action against the couple for their disrespectful conduct.
In response, a special police team was formed to track down the pair. Chandramohan and Dhanalakshmi were later located and detained at a lodge in Velachery. Mylapore Police have since initiated an enquiry into the incident.
