Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party held its executive committee and district administrators’ meeting today, where a series of resolutions were passed, making it clear that DMK is their primary political opponent.
Following the success of the recent grand rally in Vikravandi, TVK supporters celebrated Diwali with enthusiasm, energized by the momentum their party is gaining. Despite the festive mood, Vijay conducted the party’s executive meeting with focus and commitment, addressing the need for a clear opposition strategy.
One of the resolutions included a strong stance against using social media as a tool to undermine those fighting for the people, indirectly pointing at DMK’s tactics. Without generalizing, Vijay directly criticized the ruling party, sending a subtle signal to his supporters that only DMK is guilty of misusing social platforms in this manner.
In the sixth resolution, Vijay’s party criticized DMK’s claim of following a “social justice” path, suggesting that the people would not believe it. He also accused the DMK of dodging accountability in the caste-based census by blaming the central government, indicating that DMK is attempting to avoid its responsibility in addressing such social issues.
Further, the seventh resolution demanded the central government transfer education back to the state list under the principle of state autonomy. Vijay stated that if this change occurred, the state government could abolish the NEET exam, fulfilling students’ dreams of pursuing medical education. This resolution implicitly criticized Udhayanidhi Stalin’s unfulfilled promise to cancel NEET, calling it a deceptive assurance to the public.
Through these resolutions, Vijay’s TVK has made it clear that DMK will be their main opponent in the 2026 election. Political observers speculate that Vijay aims to score points by sharply criticising ruling government.
Meanwhile, Nallasamy, the coordinator of the Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement, recently criticized actor Vijay, claiming he lacks a genuine understanding of political issues. Addressing a gathering, Nallasamy highlighted Vijay’s opposition to toddy sales, arguing it reveals a lack of insight into Tamil Nadu’s social and political landscape.
Nallasamy pointed out that states like Puducherry, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, as well as many countries worldwide, have no restrictions on toddy sales. However, in Tamil Nadu, toddy has been banned, which he views as an unnecessary and unfair limitation. He emphasized that the 39 MPs from Tamil Nadu took office with the Indian Constitution in hand, which, according to Article 47, classifies toddy as a food item. He argued that these lawmakers should recognize toddy’s legal status rather than treating it as a harmful substance.
Nallasamy issued a challenge to those who consider toddy a dangerous intoxicant. He invited them to present their arguments backed by scientific evidence, promising a reward of Rs. 10 crore if they could prove their stance. He further announced a Toddy Liberation Protest scheduled for January 21, 2025, aimed at lifting the ban and allowing toddy sales in the state.
Taking a jab at Vijay, Nallasamy remarked that Vijay merely repeats dialogues and songs written by others and lacks genuine political awareness or an understanding of the toddy issue. This comment underscores a growing divide between Vijay’s political stance and grassroots movements advocating for traditional rights like toddy sales in Tamil Nadu.
