Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will meet Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of state universities on April 16 at the Secretariat in Chennai. The meeting will focus on improving the quality of higher education in the state.
This is the first meeting after the Supreme Courtās major decision on April 8, which allowed the state government to appoint Vice-Chancellors of its universities. The court used Article 142 of the Constitution to make 10 pending Bills into law, without needing the Governorās or Presidentās approval.
Soon after the verdict, CM Stalin called it a big win for not just Tamil Nadu, but all state governments in India. These new laws make history, as they became Acts without the Governorās or Presidentās signature.
