In response to recent media reports suggesting a potential hike in electricity tariffs, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Electricity and Transport, S.S. Sivasankar, has clarified that there will be no increase in electricity charges for domestic consumers. He emphasized that the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has not issued any directive regarding a tariff revision.Minister Sivasankar stated that even if the TNERC were to propose changes in the future, the state government would ensure that household consumers are not affected. He further mentioned that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has instructed that all existing free electricity schemes should continue without alteration.
This announcement comes amid concerns over a proposed 3.16% increase in electricity tariffs, which has faced opposition from various political parties. The government’s assurance aims to alleviate public apprehension and reinforce its commitment to protecting domestic consumers from additional financial burdens.
In addition to addressing tariff concerns, Minister Sivasankar recently visited ‘Minnagam’, the centralized consumer care center of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), to review the handling of public grievances. He instructed officials to promptly address complaints and ensure uninterrupted power supply across the state.
The state government’s proactive measures reflect its dedication to maintaining stable electricity services and safeguarding the interests of its residents.
