The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to celebrate a significant milestone—completing 10 years of successful operations on June 29, 2025. Since its launch in 2015, the Metro has played a vital role in transforming public transportation in Chennai, offering residents a fast, clean, and efficient mode of travel. Over the past decade, more than 39 crore passengers have used the Chennai Metro network, highlighting its growing importance in the city’s daily commute. In 2024 alone, the Metro saw a sharp rise in ridership, with more than 10.5 crore people choosing it as their preferred mode of travel. This steady growth has continued into 2025, with monthly ridership figures reflecting strong public support. January recorded 86.99 lakh passengers, February saw 86.65 lakh, March peaked at 92.10 lakh, while April and May recorded 87.59 lakh and 89.09 lakh respectively. These numbers show a consistent and increasing reliance on Metro services by Chennai residents. To make commuting more convenient and promote the use of digital services, CMRL continues to offer a 20 percent discount on ticket purchases made through digital platforms. Commuters can avail of this offer by using mobile QR code ticketing for single, return, group, and trip passes. Tickets can also be booked through WhatsApp (+91 83000 86000), Paytm, and PhonePe, making it easier for passengers to travel without standing in queues. As Chennai Metro enters its second decade, it remains committed to expanding its services and improving the travel experience for millions of commuters. The upcoming projects under Phase-II and the continued push for digital innovation signal a bright and efficient future for urban transport in the city. @@
