Chennai, June 13:
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Chief Thol. Thirumavalavan has strongly condemned recent actions involving the removal of party flagpoles across Tamil Nadu, stating that it is against democratic traditions.
Speaking to the media, Thirumavalavan said, āThe installation and hoisting of party flags are part of Indiaās long-standing democratic culture. If someone files a case and the court issues an order against it, implementing such a directive without considering democratic principles is unacceptable.ā
He clarified that the party has filed an appeal challenging the court order, expressing confidence that the appeal would result in a favourable verdict. āThe case is still under legal consideration. However, taking advantage of the situation, certain officials ā particularly Vice Chancellors and administrative officers ā are showing unnecessary enthusiasm in removing only flagpoles,ā he said.
Thirumavalavan also condemned an incident in Chidambaram where, during the removal of a flagpole, an official allegedly caused damage to a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. āThis act is condemnable. Strict action should be taken against the official responsible,ā he demanded.
The VCK leaderās remarks come amid growing criticism from opposition parties regarding selective enforcement of court orders and perceived disrespect toward symbols of social justice. Thirumavalavan reaffirmed that his party would continue to uphold democratic rights and oppose any actions that attempt to undermine them.
