In a significant move to ramp up milk production and strengthen its supply chain, Tamil Naduās leading dairy brand, Aavin, has announced the establishment of two new manufacturing centres in Madhavaram and Acharapakkam, both located in Chennai. The initiative, spearheaded by the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producersā Federation, aims to meet the growing demand for quality milk and dairy products across the state.Aavin, a public sector enterprise under the TN Dairy Development Department, has long been involved in the procurement, processing, refrigeration, and sale of milk through its 27 district unions. Officials say that milk sales have seen a sharp surgeāfrom 23 lakh litres per day in 2019-20 to over 30 lakh litres in 2024-25āattributed to key measures implemented by the state government.
The upcoming manufacturing units are expected to play a crucial role in sustaining this growth. The Madhavaram facility is designed to handle the production of 10 lakh litres of milk per day, while the Acharapakkam unit will support the production of 1 lakh litres daily. Both centres are scheduled to be operational by March 2026.
Despite competition from private and national brands such as Amul, Aavin continues to dominate the Tamil Nadu market, thanks to its competitive pricing and consistent quality. With increasing demand and expanding infrastructure, Aavin is poised to further cement its leadership in the state’s dairy sector.
