Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is under fire after he agreed with US President Donald Trump’s comment calling India’s economy “dead.” Trump made the remark while announcing 25% tariffs on Indian imports. He also said he doesn’t care about India’s ties with Russia, saying both could ā€œtake their dead economies down together.ā€
Rahul Gandhi quickly supported Trump’s words, saying, “He is right. Everyone knows this except our Prime Minister and Finance Minister.”
But many of his own party leaders disagreed. Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Rajiv Shukla defended India’s economy. Tharoor said India should not give in to unfair US demands. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also hit back at Trump, calling his comment arrogant and wrong.
Meanwhile, the BJP used the situation to counter the Opposition’s criticism.
