New Delhi, Apr 26:
In a significant political development, Raghav Chadha has announced his exit from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and declared that two-thirds of the party’s Rajya Sabha members will merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
Addressing the media, Chadha stated that 7 out of AAP’s 10 Rajya Sabha MPs have backed the move, a number that satisfies the constitutional requirement for a merger under the anti-defection law.
He maintained that the decision was taken after internal deliberations, claiming that the party had “drifted away from its founding principles”, prompting leaders to seek a new political direction.
The development has triggered a major shift in the balance of power in the Rajya Sabha. With the exit of Chadha and six other MPs, AAP’s strength in the Upper House has been drastically reduced, leaving the party significantly weakened.
At the same time, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) stands to gain from the merger, further consolidating its position in Parliament and strengthening its legislative influence.
