Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated Tamil film ‘Coolie’, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is making waves well before its release. With record-breaking pre-sales in the US and growing traction in Canada, especially among Telugu-speaking audiences, the film is shaping up to be a global event.
The Telugu version alone has already crossed the $100,000 mark in the North American box office even before its release — a rare feat that speaks volumes about the film’s pan-Indian appeal. Featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, the promotional campaign has been kicked off in full swing with director Lokesh and team participating in media interactions across platforms.
In a surprising turn, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted Coolie an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate. This development has caught both fans and industry insiders off guard, as none of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s previous films have received an adult-only rating. While the exact reason behind the certification—be it stylized violence, dark themes, or bold content—remains unknown until the full censor certificate is made public, the move has fueled speculation and further amplified public interest.
Adding to the anticipation is the film’s impressive ensemble cast, which includes Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Shruti Haasan, all playing pivotal roles alongside the Superstar. The blend of talent from multiple industries has only widened the film’s reach and appeal.
Coolie is scheduled to hit screens on August 14, strategically timed for the Independence Day holiday weekend. As fans gear up for this high-octane actioner, fresh buzz is also surrounding Jailer 2 — the much-speculated sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 blockbuster Jailer, reportedly in the works with director Nelson Dilipkumar.
