As part of India’s 79th Independence Day, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi hosted the traditional “At Home” tea reception at Raj Bhavan. The event drew mixed political participation amid growing tensions between the Governor and the state administration. While the DMK-led ruling coalition—including DMK, Congress, left parties, and Tamilaga Vetrikazhagam—boycotted the event, citing the Governor’s alleged actions against state interests, guests from the AIADMK and BJP attended the occasion.
Representing the BJP were state president Nainar Nagendran, Tamilisai Soundararajan, and H. Raja, while AIADMK MLA M.P. Inbathurai was also in attendance.
Members of the PMK, including MLAs Anbumani Adhar of PMK, Sivakumar, Venkatesh, and Sadasivam, joined the gathering as well.
Top government officials such as State Chief Secretary Muruganandam and Chennai Police Commissioner Arun were present, adding to the evening’s official ambience.
M.K. Stalin, who had earlier skipped the tea event altogether, did not send any DMK representatives.
