Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay has urged both the Central and State governments to act on a “war footing” to tackle the economic crisis caused by a 50% import tax imposed by the United States.
In a post on X, Vijay said the tax has severely hit Tamil Nadu’s exporters. He warned that millions of families depending on industries like textiles, garments, leather, automobiles, and seafood are at risk.
He said Indian goods have become too costly for American buyers, who are now choosing cheaper products from countries like Bangladesh.
Vijay accused the Centre of failing in foreign policy and criticised the DMK government for focusing on publicity instead of relief measures.
He called for a joint Central-State task force with trade and industry representatives to protect businesses, workers, and entrepreneurs affected by the tax.
