Chennai celebrates Onam with joy and tradition

The city turned festive today as Malayali communities celebrated Onam with devotion, food, and culture.
Temples like Mahalingapuram Ayyappan, Guruvayurappan are decorated and filled with devotees.
At homes, families prepare the grand Onam Sadhya – the traditional feast served on banana leaves.
People also made pookalams (floral rangolis) and dress in traditional attire – men in mundu and women in kasavu sarees.
Hotels in Chennai offered special Onam menus.Community leaders said the festival brings together people from all walks of life. The festival is held in memory of King Mahabali and marks Kerala’s harvest season. It is a symbol of prosperity and togetherness.
