Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has issued a clarification regarding the purchase of agricultural land in Coimbatore, following allegations that the transaction was carried out through questionable means.Speaking to the media on Friday, Annamalai said that the land, measuring about 14 acres, was acquired on July 12 through a combination of family savings and debt. He added that the loan taken for the purchase is being serviced regularly, with the monthly interest paid directly from his personal bank account.
The former IPS officer turned politician explained that the land registration was carried out under a power of attorney granted to his wife on July 10, two days before the purchase. He further clarified that all statutory dues, including stamp duty and registration tax amounting to ₹40.59 lakh, were paid in full at the time of registration.
Rejecting charges of irregularities, Annamalai said:
“This is the first immovable property in my name. The purchase has been made in a transparent and legitimate manner.”
Annamalai also revealed his plans for the newly purchased land. He has applied for a loan under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) with the intention of setting up a dairy farm. The project, he said, is aimed at creating rural employment and strengthening the local economy.
In addition to the dairy initiative, Annamalai announced that he would be launching an early-stage investment company focused on social enterprises and startups. Through this venture, he hopes to encourage innovative projects that generate social impact alongside financial growth.
The clarification comes at a politically sensitive time, as opposition groups had alleged that Annamalai acquired the land through “dubious means.” His statement appears to be an attempt to put speculation to rest and position the project as part of a broader commitment to entrepreneurship and social development.
