The court has granted permission for Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) district secretary Mathiyazhagan to be questioned in two days’ police custody in connection with the Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives during actor Vijay’s rally.The Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IG Asra Garg had sought five days of custody, but the court limited it to two, directing police to ensure Mathiyazhagan receives regular medication and hospital care if needed.
Another TVK district secretary, Venkatesan, was also arrested for allegedly damaging an ambulance during the incident. The probe into the tragedy continues under the SIT’s supervision.
