Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam has called on the DMK government to promptly release pension benefits to retired transport employees and to reinstate the old pension scheme introduced in 1998. He emphasized that despite the DMK’s election promise to revive the pension scheme, it remains unfulfilled as the government’s term nears its end.
Panneerselvam further claimed that thousands of retired workers from Tamil Nadu’s state transport corporations have not received any pension benefits for the past two years. He urged the government to expedite the regularization of long-serving contract employees and to ensure the timely payment of bonuses, gratuity, and wage increases without discrimination. Additionally, he highlighted the need to provide pension-related benefits to the families of deceased employees.
He concluded by stating that fulfilling these demands is essential to secure the rights and livelihood of transport corporation workers and pensioners.
