Governor RN Ravi referred the Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical University Bill—passed twice by the state Assembly—to President Droupadi Murmu for consideration, after previously rejecting it and seeking amendments. The bill, first enacted in April 2022 and re-passed in October 2025, proposes establishing a Siddha university at Madhavaram with the Chief Minister as Chancellor, overriding Ravi’s earlier concerns about conflicts with national Ayurveda and Homoeopathy commissions.
This follows Supreme Court rulings curbing gubernatorial delays on TN bills, with the state likely to challenge the referral amid ongoing Raj Bhavan-Assembly friction; 152 of 181 bills have received assent previously.
