In a surprising turn, the names of Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) candidate Induja Ramesh and her husband were removed from the electoral roll in Sivaganga district — because they were marked as “dead.” Their names had been deleted during the ongoing revision of the voter list. When the couple discovered this, they went to the district collector’s office and engaged in a heated argument over the deletion. They claimed that the marking was incorrect and demanded that their names be reinstated.
The deletions are part of a large-scale exercise under Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Tamil Nadu. The SIR aims to clean up the voter list by removing names of people who have died, relocated permanently, or have duplicate registrations.
So far, millions of names have been struck off across the state under SIR. Officials say the removals are meant to ensure that the rolls are accurate and reflect only valid voters.
