A powerful real-life story from North Chennai is now set for the big screen. The biopic of international carrom champion Kajima, who recently brought pride to India by winning the 6th International Carrom Tournament in California, began with a grand pooja ceremony today. Titled “The Carrom Queen,” the film will trace her extraordinary rise from hardship to global recognition.
Born into a modest family and raised as the daughter of an autorickshaw driver, Kajima’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. She learned the sport with the support of her father and brother, overcoming poverty and challenges to emerge as an international star. Moved by her story of struggle and victory, a Karnataka-based production house has taken up the project.
Actress Randiya Bhuvanesh will play Kajima, while actor Kaali Venkat portrays a key role.
Producer Nagesh Bhat of Nihan Entertainments said he was profoundly impacted by Kajima’s journey and decided to enter Tamil cinema through this film. Director Murali added that although he has made films before, this project feels especially meaningful because it brings a true story to life with full support from Kajima’s family.
Squash player and actress Komal Sharma, along with special guests including producer S.K. Pictures Sampath and writer Saurabh M. Pandey of The Kashmir Files, attended the ceremony and praised the team for celebrating a remarkable sportswoman’s life.
