A large number of eligible citizens in Tamil Nadu have come forward to ensure their names appear on the updated electoral roll, underscoring growing public interest in civic participation ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
According to the State Chief Electoral Officer, a total of 4,42,070 applications were submitted during two days of special intensive revision camps conducted across the State from December 27 to 28.
These camps, held at polling stations in various Assembly constituencies—especially in Madurai district—were organised to help voters: Register new names in the draft electoral list, Delete entries of deceased or shifted voters, and
Update or correct details such as addresses or photo identity information.
On the first day, 17,042 people submitted their applications. The second day saw 23,523 more applications, bringing the two-day total to 4,42,070 submissions.
Of these, 19,063 applications were for new voter enrolment, 343 were for deletion of names, and 4,117 were for corrections or updates including address changes and re-issuance of voter identity cards.
Applicants were required to submit documents such as birth certificates, Aadhaar cards, and details from parents’ voter IDs from the 2005 electoral roll to support their applications.
