The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), in collaboration with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), organised a four-day Emergency Medicine & Anti-Doping Regional Course for medical professionals and physiotherapists from AFC Member Associations at the Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science, Chennai.
Inaugurating the course, Dato Dr. Gurcharan Singh, Chairperson of the AFC Medical Committee, stressed that alongside technical training, sports medicine and science are vital for achieving the long-term goal of Asian countries winning the Football World Cup. The programme, attended by 50 participants from countries including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Uzbekistan, featured lectures and hands-on sessions by leading international and national faculty on injury prevention, on-field emergencies, and anti-doping practices.
AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey highlighted the importance of such programmes for player safety in India, while Dr. S. Arumugam, Director of the Sri Ramachandra Centre, noted that the course equips medical professionals to handle emergencies like sudden cardiac events and severe injuries, strengthening football sports medicine across the region.
