Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday alleged that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government had borrowed Rs 6,000 crore to fund assistance under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) scheme.Addressing a party meeting in Pallavaram, the PMK leader criticised the State government for what he described as prioritising “vote politics” over long-term fiscal stability. He questioned the rationale behind raising large loans to finance welfare assistance while citing financial constraints in addressing the demands of teachers, nurses, anganwadi workers and sanitation staff.
Anbumani further contended that while the government mobilised thousands of crores for cash assistance schemes, it had not shown similar urgency in waiving education loans amounting to nearly Rs 5,000 crore. He also accused the ruling party of failing to fulfil several key electoral promises made during the 2021 Assembly polls.
Raising concerns over unemployment and student welfare, he claimed job creation figures had fallen short of commitments and alleged that the education sector was facing mounting challenges. He also referred to issues such as rising student distress and declining enrolment in government schools.
The PMK leader alleged corruption in various sectors and criticised the State’s fiscal management, asserting that the government was relying excessively on borrowings. With Assembly elections approaching, he expressed confidence that voters would seek an alternative to the ruling dispensation.
