Chennai, May 14:
Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday announced a solatium of ₹3 lakh each to the families of five persons who died in a road accident on the Karur–Coimbatore National Highway.
In an official statement, the Tamil Nadu government said the accident occurred after a lorry lost control and hit the centre median on the highway. While the driver was attempting to move the vehicle, an SUV reportedly came at high speed and rammed into the lorry, resulting in the fatal crash.
Expressing condolences, the Chief Minister extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and announced that the compensation will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.
The government said further inquiries into the accident are underway to determine the exact sequence of events and fix responsibility.
