Lucknow, May 25:
Rishabh Pant’s future as captain of Lucknow Super Giants has come under serious doubt after the franchise’s disappointing IPL campaign, with Director of Cricket Tom Moody hinting at a possible leadership change ahead of next season.
Speaking after LSG’s defeat to Punjab Kings, Moody admitted Pant had found captaincy challenging and suggested the pressure may have affected his batting performances as well.“From a captaincy point of view, he has found it challenging and the results reflect that,” Moody said.
“We will reflect on the season, consider all things and take some serious decisions regarding the future leadership of the franchise.”
LSG endured another poor campaign under Pant, managing only 10 wins in 28 matches across the last two seasons and set to finish near the bottom of the table this year.
Moody said the franchise would assess every department carefully and acknowledged that the team may require a “reset” moving forward.“We haven’t lived up to the expectations or standards we set for ourselves,” he said.
“When it comes to leadership, it’s certainly something we will seriously consider. It certainly looks like we need to consider a reset.”
Pant, who was bought for a record Rs 27 crore, has also struggled to replicate his explosive batting form during his time with the franchise, adding to the scrutiny surrounding his leadership role.
