Chennai, May 26:
In a fresh development that adds to the political unrest within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Ambasamudram MLA Isakki Subbiah has tendered his resignation from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
He submitted his resignation letter in person to Assembly Speaker J. C. D. Prabhakar. At the Speaker’s request, he also provided a handwritten version of the resignation, complying with Assembly procedures.
The resignation comes in the backdrop of deepening factionalism within the AIADMK following the recent Assembly elections. The party has split into camps led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami and the rival faction of S. P. Velumani and C. V. Shanmugam.
Earlier, three rebel AIADMK MLAs—Maragadam Kumaravel, S. Jayakumar, and Sathyabama—had also resigned after supporting the trust vote moved by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, defying the party whip.
The current political scenario in Tamil Nadu remains volatile, with multiple AIADMK legislators facing possible disqualification under the anti-defection law for backing the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government.
Isakki Subbiah had won the Ambasamudram seat by defeating a Congress candidate by a margin of 10,245 votes. A three-time MLA, he had previously served as Law Minister in the cabinet of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in 2011, though his tenure lasted only briefly.
