Chennai, May 27:
The long-pending Chennai Port–Maduravoyal Double Decker Flyover project is now progressing at a rapid pace, with authorities indicating that the key infrastructure corridor is likely to become operational soon. The ambitious project is designed to streamline connectivity between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal, addressing long-standing traffic bottlenecks in the city.
Once commissioned, the elevated corridor is expected to significantly decongest arterial roads by diverting heavy vehicles, particularly container trucks heading to and from the port. This will reduce pressure on city roads and improve overall traffic flow in several busy stretches of Chennai.
Officials said the project will play a crucial role in enhancing logistics efficiency by cutting down travel time for port-bound cargo vehicles. The dedicated corridor is expected to ensure smoother and faster movement of goods, thereby boosting trade operations linked to the port.
Apart from easing congestion, the flyover is also expected to improve road safety by segregating freight traffic from regular city commuters. The project is seen as a major step toward modernising urban transport infrastructure and supporting economic activity in and around Chennai.
With construction now in advanced stages, the completion of the double decker flyover is expected to mark a significant milestone in the city’s infrastructure development, offering long-term benefits for both commuters and the logistics sector.
