Paris, June 1:

Russia’s Diana Shnaider reached her maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal with a commanding three-set victory over Madison Keys at the French Open on Monday.

The 25th seed secured a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win, bouncing back strongly after a dip in the second set to dominate the decider in just 26 minutes. “It’s definitely a huge moment for me, I’m super happy,” said Shnaider, expressing pride at reaching her first Grand Slam last-eight stage. She will next face either Aryna Sabalenka or Naomi Osaka.

In another match, Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska continued her fairytale run, defeating France’s Diane Parry 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. Ranked world number 114, Chwalinska’s win ended French hopes in the singles draw at Roland Garros.

“I didn’t expect it for sure… I’m just very, very grateful to be here,” said Chwalinska after her emphatic victory.
