Canada began their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign on home soil with a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in a tense Group B encounter in Toronto.
Bosnia struck first in the 21st minute through Jovo Lukic, who finished a well-worked set-piece move with a close-range header. The visitors held their advantage through a disciplined defensive display, frustrating Canadian attacks for long spells of the match.
Canada, however, grew stronger after the break, pushing forward with greater urgency and control of possession. Their persistence was eventually rewarded in the 78th minute when substitute Cyle Larin made an immediate impact, finding the equaliser shortly after coming on.
Despite late pressure from both sides, neither team could find a winner, and the match ended level—giving Canada a historic first World Cup point on home soil as they continue their Group B journey.
