Chennai, June 15:
After successive poll defeats, the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) of former Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan quit the AIADMK-led NDA, in which BJP was also the key partner.A decision to this effect was taken at TMC general council meet, Vasan told reporters.
Stating that the recent Assemby elections has thrown up an unexpected verdict after 60 years, he said the Front headedby AIADMK, with which the TMC has been sailing with it for several years, had not been tasting success in successive polls.
Vasan said though party workers wanted TMC to face the upcoming Local body elections on its own, a decision on alliance would be taken at that time, without losing the TMC’s identity.
To a question, he termed the presence of Congress in ruling TVK’s alliance as opportunistic politics.
