Trichy, July 8:

Tamil Nadu HR&CE Minister S. Ramesh on Monday assured that the department would soon undergo key reforms, with the government actively studying measures to ensure hassle-free darshan in temples across the State. He said efforts were underway to improve the overall experience for devotees while streamlining temple administration.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a grievance redressal meeting in the Srirangam Assembly constituency, the minister stated that the government remained committed to enhancing basic amenities in temples. He added that officials had been instructed not to delay public welfare initiatives. “The HR&CE Department will be revamped soon. The reforms are being studied and an announcement will be made shortly,” he said.

Ramesh further noted that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had directed all elected representatives to directly engage with the public, understand their grievances and ensure swift resolution. According to him, such outreach initiatives have improved coordination between officials, elected representatives and the people.

Addressing concerns over temple charges, the minister dismissed reports of an increase in paid darshan fees at the Tiruchendur temple, calling them false and politically motivated. He said existing procedures would continue for now and would be reviewed based on feedback from devotees. “We will never impose anything against the interests of the people,” he asserted.

On VIP darshan, Ramesh acknowledged concerns raised by devotees and said appropriate action would be taken against any misuse or practices that go against public interest. He also revealed that police had arrested individuals from other states who were running fake websites offering online bookings for Yatri Nivas in Srirangam. To prevent such fraud, the government is planning to launch an official online booking portal soon.
