Chennai, Aug 18:
The Greater Chennai Corporation is exploring plans to improve public transport and pedestrian infrastructure on major roads, including 30 air-conditioned bus stops and modern footbridges equipped with lifts and escalators.
The proposed AC bus shelters are aimed at providing commuters with a more comfortable waiting environment amid Chennai’s hot and humid weather.
The Corporation is also considering modern footbridges with lifts and escalators to improve pedestrian safety and make road crossings easier, particularly for senior citizens and people with mobility challenges.
Officials are currently examining the feasibility of the proposed facilities. Locations, designs, implementation plans and timelines are expected to be finalised after the feasibility study.
If implemented, the projects could improve bus waiting facilities and pedestrian connectivity along some of Chennai’s busiest roads.
