Chennai, Aug 31:
Seven people, including four children ,were killed and three sustained injuries in two separate road accidents in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
In a horrific mishap, four children, including three girls, were killed at Kollampatti near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district on Sunday afternoon. The children were sitting and playing on the roadside, when they were hit by a speeding unidentified vehicle. The van driver did not stop the vehicle and fled the scene.
The deceased were identified as Yogavarshini (11), Mosikaran (6), Ananya (6) and Dhanushree (5).
Police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to the government hospital for post mortem.
Vadamadurai police have registered a case and are on the look out of the vehicle and its driver.
In the other accident, three members of a family were killed and an equal number injured when the autorickshaw in which they were travelling rammed into a truck near the temple town of Periyapalayam in neighbouring Tiruvallur district.
The deceased included two women–mother and her daughter.
Preliminary investigations revealed that all the occupants, including the driver, who were returning home after having darshan at a temple, are from the same family.
Driver Loganathan lost control of the vehicle while swerving to the left to overtake a truck and rammed into it. In the impact, the auto got toppled killing three people on the spot.
Passerby alerted the police who shifted all of them to a hospital where three were declared brought dead. They were identified as Loganathan’s wife Poongodi, her mother Radha and her nephew Gokul.
The injured Loganathan, his daughter Dhanalakshmi and another nephew Prasanth, are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Vijay expressed deep anguish and grief over the loss of lives of young children who died in the Dindigul accident and announced a solatium of Rs three lakh each to their families, while offering his deep condolences to them.
He also announced a relief of Rs one lakh to a woman, Anjalaiammal, who sustained injuries in the mishap, and directed the hospital authorities to provide the best of treatment to her.
