Chennai, Sept 23:
Tamil Development Minister Raj Mohan on Wednesday said the Veeramani case involving Gem Granites was under the direct supervision of Chief Minister Vijay and assured that no one involved in the case would be allowed to escape.
The Minister was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a renovated and upgraded pond on the premises of the Government Museum in Egmore. The pond was renovated with the CSR funds of Ford Motor Company and coordinated by the Exnora International Foundation. Raj Mohan later inspected the renovated areas.
Speaking on the Keezhadi excavations, Raj Mohan said Keezhadi was not merely a symbol of Tamil civilisation but an identity of civilisation as a whole. He urged the Centre to release the important findings of the Keezhadi studies at the earliest.
On the proposed new Secretariat, the Minister said Chief Minister Vijay would take the final decision. He clarified that the proposal to establish the Secretariat at Pattinapakkam was not a final decision and said the Chief Minister would announce a suitable decision soon.
On the Veeramani case, Raj Mohan said the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government had taken up the matter within a few months of assuming office and was conducting a comprehensive investigation. He questioned who had kept the case under wraps for nearly a year and whom the DMK was allegedly trying to protect in the case.
“Despite so much evidence, why was no action taken by the previous government? Who ordered that the Veeramani case could be closed?” he asked.
Raj Mohan also condemned the remarks made by former Minister Raghupathi. He said the Veeramani case was being monitored directly by Chief Minister Vijay and asserted that nobody involved would be able to escape.
The Minister further said cases that had allegedly been suppressed or kept under wraps would be brought to light and investigated.
On the upcoming by-elections in Dharapuram and Madurantakam, Raj Mohan said the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam had bright prospects of victory in both constituencies.
