Chennai, Oct 29:
The Tamil Nadu government has reportedly declared Monday, November 9, a public holiday following Deepavali, which falls on Sunday, November 8, this year. The additional holiday is expected to provide students, government employees and families more time for festive celebrations and travel.
According to the report, the holiday will apply to educational institutions, including schools and colleges, as well as government offices covered by the announcement. With November 7 falling on Saturday and Deepavali on Sunday, the additional holiday would provide a longer break for those covered by the order.
To compensate for the additional holiday, Saturday, November 28, has reportedly been declared a working day. Schools, colleges and government offices covered by the revised schedule are expected to follow the arrangement.
The additional holiday is likely to benefit families planning to travel to their native places for the festival. People are advised to check the applicable government order and announcements from their respective departments or institutions for confirmation of the holiday and working-day arrangements.
