Washington, Oct 30:
The United States has privately warned several Middle Eastern countries and regional allies to prepare for possible renewed military action against Iran after the November 3 midterm elections, along with the possibility of Iranian retaliation, according to diplomats briefed on the discussions.
Two diplomats said US officials had conveyed the warnings to regional partners, including concerns that Iran could target energy facilities and other critical infrastructure in response to American strikes. They spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to disclose the sensitive communications.
President Donald Trump has not taken a final decision on whether to order fresh attacks. However, he has repeatedly indicated that military action remains an option after the elections. US officials have reportedly told allies that a new round of strikes could last several days, while regional governments fear that retaliation by Iran and groups allied with it could prolong the confrontation.
The White House and US officials declined to comment on the reported warnings. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was continuing to give diplomacy a chance and was willing to examine proposals previously put forward as a basis for returning to a ceasefire.
The United Arab Emirates has also urged the parties to exercise restraint and pursue political solutions to contain tensions. The warnings come amid increased American military deployments in the region and growing concerns over the security of energy infrastructure.
The possibility of renewed hostilities has placed regional allies in a difficult position, as they prepare for potential attacks while seeking to avoid being drawn into a wider conflict. With no final decision announced by Washington, the prospect of further military action remains uncertain.
