Chennai, Oct 29:
A hotel worker allegedly died by suicide at his house near Kaliyakkavilai in Kanniyakumari district after his wife left home with their children following a domestic dispute.
The deceased was identified as Aruldas, a resident of Puliyavilai in the Padanthalmoodu area. He was employed at a hotel in Marthandam and is survived by his wife and children.
According to police, Aruldas allegedly had a drinking habit, which frequently led to arguments between him and his wife.
Two days before the incident, another quarrel reportedly broke out after he consumed alcohol. Following the argument, his wife left the house with the children and went to stay at a relative’s residence.
Aruldas was reportedly upset after they left. His wife returned home the following evening and was shocked to find him hanging from a ceiling fan inside a room.
She raised an alarm, following which neighbours rushed to the house and alerted the police.
Personnel from Kaliyakkavilai police station reached the spot and recovered the body. It was subsequently sent to the Kuzhithurai Government Hospital for postmortem examination.
Police registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the death.
The incident caused shock in the Puliyavilai neighbourhood.
