Chennai, Oct 31:
Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has announced an additional five-year relaxation in the upper age limit for candidates applying for direct recruitment to Tamil Nadu government jobs, offering relief to thousands of competitive examination aspirants.
The concession will remain in force for five years from October 30, 2026, and will be over and above the existing age relaxations available to candidates belonging to reserved categories, including BC, BC(M), MBC and DNC, SC, ST and destitute widows.
According to the revised norms, the upper age limit for general category candidates applying for Group I services has been increased from 32 to 37 years. For reserved category candidates, it has been raised from 37 to 42 years.
For differently abled candidates applying for Group I posts, the upper age limit has been increased from 42 to 47 years for the general category and from 47 to 52 years for reserved categories.
For Group II and Group II-A services, the upper age limit for general category candidates has been raised from 30 to 35 years. For differently abled candidates in the general category, it has been increased from 40 to 45 years. Reserved category candidates will continue to have no upper age limit for these services.
For Group IV posts, the revised limits also provide additional opportunities. Candidates with higher educational qualifications will continue to have no upper age limit. For those without higher qualifications, the upper age limit has been raised from 30 to 35 years for the general category and from 32 to 37 years for BC, BC(M), MBC and DNC candidates.
For SC, ST and destitute widow candidates without higher qualifications, the upper age limit has been increased from 35 to 40 years. The corresponding limits for differently abled candidates have also been raised by five years.
The government said the decision was taken in response to representations from job aspirants seeking more opportunities to appear for competitive examinations. The additional concession will apply across different service groups and categories, over and above the existing provisions.
